Everybody wants to live in a home that they can be proud of. For some of us, this simply means that our home is clean and large enough to be livable for us and our families.
Others would prefer to go above and beyond. They decorate not just to impress, but to astound. If you’re one of these fashionable types, here are some home design trends that are in right now.
1. Floral Patterns
Using flowers in design dates back to Ancient Egypt at least, and things haven’t slowed down from there. Floral designs are back in right now, with many designers favoring grand, noticeable designs, such as floral wallpapers.
However, subtlety is still not a lost art, and many people have pulled off a floral design using nothing more than the odd piece of furniture or a few well-placed plants.
2. Intricate Wallpaper
Wallpaper is still considered fashionable as well. However, they have evolved with time, and today, a more complex wallpaper is stylish.
There’s not one right answer for what we mean by complex, but we can give you an idea. From what we’ve seen, this could mean any number of things, from geometric designs with a bright, modern twist to wallpapers designed to look like the inside of a geode.
Wood never goes out of style when it comes to decorating. Instead, it just shifts in some way.
In this case, cerused wood finishes are in. Cerusing is a method of finishing wood that is meant to make the wood appear lighter in color, while also making the grains and details stand out.
How much cerused wood you use doesn’t really matter. You could make this kind of wood your centerpiece, or just brighten up a few details.
When researching home design trends, one material that kept popping up virtually everywhere was copper. Natural materials, and metals especially, are being used in several different design trends.
Copper is also turning heads in another strange design trend. Since 2013, but especially in the past two years, people have been redoing their floors with pennies. Whether you’re in the US or the UK, this one of the current flooring trends.
5. Closet Renovations
Who wouldn’t like a bigger closet? Whether you’re a retiree who’s run out of storage space or even an 8-year-old who’s run out of hiding places, a larger closet can make things much easier.
Even if you don’t own a lot of clothes, being more organized couldn’t hurt. This is particularly true if you can give yourself more space this way. One of the biggest reasons for losing things in closets is that there are a lot of objects in a very small space.
